51+ min ago (751+ words) Monday, 01 Dec 2025 JD VANCE, it seems, is everywhere. Berating Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office. Eulogising Charlie Kirk. Babysitting the Middle East peace accord. Profanely defending the aquatic obliteration of (possible) drug smugglers. He's loud, he's obnoxious and, in a very short time, he's broken unprecedented ground with his smash-face, turn-it-to-11 approach to the vice presidency. Unlike most White House understudies, who effectively disappear like a protected witness, Vance has become the highest-profile, most pugnacious politician in America who is not named Donald J. Trump. It's quite the contrast with his predecessor. By the end of her first year in office, "whatever happened to Kamala Harris?" had become a political buzz phrase. No one's asking that about Vance. Why is that? Because that's how President Donald Trump wants it. "Rule No.1 about the vice presidency is that vice presidents are only…...

Monitoring of licensed premises tightened after Chow Kit raid, says Zaliha
1+ hour, 30+ min ago (403+ words) Monday, 01 Dec 2025 KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will tighten monitoring and enforcement of licensed premises after a raid on a mens-only wellness centre in Chow Kit, says Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. She said authorities must draw up careful plans to address social issues, especially when operators misuse approved licences. "Usually, when a licence application is submitted, DBKL approves it based on what is declared," she said. "For example, if the purpose is to operate a spa, then we allow that," Dr Zaliha added on Monday (Dec 1). She said that activities carried out before or after approval can fall outside DBKL control, and that is when the authorities discover activities completely different from what was applied for. Dr Zaliha said DBKL conducts scheduled monitoring of licensed premises and enforces action on complaints. She added that Kuala Lumpur has…...

REUTERS/Denis Balibouse ZURICH, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Switzerland on Sunday clearly rejected a proposed 50% tax on inherited fortunes of 50 million Swiss francs ($62 million) or more, public broadcaster SRF said in a first results estimate, with an expected 79% of votes against the plan. The proposal from the youth wing of the leftist Social Democrats, or JUSOs, aimed to fund projects to reduce the impact of climate change, was widely expected to fail, with over two-thirds of respondents against the proposed tax in recent polls. Bankers have watched the vote closely, casting it as a litmus test of appetite for wealth redistribution in Switzerland, as other countries, like Norway, have beefed up their wealth tax or debated similar moves. Switzerland is…...
